Who in your company is best suited for the role of Mental Health First Aider?

Ideally this role should be requested by your staff members rather than assigned to them. This is due to both the responsibility it holds and the commitment required to support colleagues in what will sometimes be emotive and challenging situations.

Those best positioned are supervisors or managers who are well known, liked & trusted and have the time to tend to the Mental Health needs of staff. Someone who has been with the company a reasonable time and knows the majority of staff and the staff know them due to their visibility in their role.

We do appreciate that Mental Health awareness may be new to your company and you may not have suitable staff willing or able to take on this role initially. In this instance we recommend one of your Level 3 trained staff to take on this role temporarily. In the interim Integral Workplace Wellness can offer you our Reactive Support package with the aim of bridging the gap to support your staff until a suitable team member is trained to the Level 2 role.

We can also work with interested Level 1 trained staff to bring them up to the Level 2 role through guidance, training & workshops. This ensures your entire workforce is trained and supported and there is a plan in place to attain complete Mental Health support in the long term.
